The grads are back and better than ever! As part of Florida A&M University’s homecoming festivities, the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication hosted the annual “Grads are Back” event, with SJGC alumni returning to campus to connect and give current students professional advice in their respective careers.

The two-day event started Wednesday, October 25, with a fireside chat between SJGC Dean Mira Lowe and Staci R. Collins Jackson, an alumna and Hollywood PR executive, with the opening ceremony beginning shortly afterward.

“Grads are Back” featured many events designed to provide SJGC students with career and academic advice, networking opportunities and job offers. The event helps to promote student success in their academics and future careers.

The bulk of the events were held on Thursday, October 26. The schedule consisted of multiple educational seminars, a career fair and a barbeque provided by FAMU Metz. The events cater to SJGC students in every major.

“Grads are Back” is an essential event for students, alumni, and faculty. Novia Lindsey, SJGC alumna, designer and panelist of “Where Design Meets Destiny,” thinks it is essential to give back to students by participating in this event.

“It’s important for the grads to give back to the students so the students can imagine themselves as working professionals many years later,” she stated, “I think it’s important for them to see individuals who look like them doing well professionally and succeeding.”

Grads are Back 2023 left an unfaltering impression on students, giving them many opportunities to foster professional and academic growth. This year’s event was one to remember.
