John Alex Gatsby, raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, is a singer, songwriter and pilot who fuses contemporary R&B with pop music. His career came about when he released his 2023 single “Therapy”. His debut album “Mayday” merges his passion for music and aviation. The album features the single “Maneater” a modern interpolation of the 1982 hit by Hall and Oates, with his own twist on the vamp theme.

John Alex Gatsby sat down and described his love for aviation and music. He talks about how music has been a lifetime passion of his since he was a child. In his youth, he’d always be in and out of the radio station in Greensboro where his father prerecorded his shows.

“I grew up in a musical household, my dad was a DJ on the radio, so I spent a lot of time in and out the radio station answering the phone at 102 in Greensboro.” he said.

Gatsby speaks about his song “Maneater,” saying how he wanted to pay homage to the 80s era. He places on the billboard, but he never minded where his songs were placed on the billboard charts. Instead, he would rather impact people directly with his music. Gatsby still finds a way to be moved while being inspirational.

“What really really was the defining moment for me was when I was rehearsing that song therapy…a lady comes up to me says ‘you’re the artist that made that song? My husband loves that song,” he said.
