The Florida A&M University Women’s Basketball team fell in a close game to the Alcorn State University Braves 61-48. The Lady Rattlers lose their third conference game of the season and fall to fifth in the SWAC.
The “Lady Rattlers” kept the game close for three quarters of play, going into the fourth quarter tied 43-43. The Rattlers offense in the fourth quarter would get outscored 18-5 making only two shots. This allowed the Braves to win the game by 13 points. FAMU also had four crucial turnovers and missed five free throws.
The biggest difference in the game for the “Lady Rattlers” was rebounding and inside shooting. The Lady Rattlers finished the game out-rebounded by the Braves 44-28 with 14 of those being offensive rebounds. The Braves would convert these 14 offensive rebounds into 11 second chance points. ASU gaurd Kiarra Henderson led the Braves in rebounding, finishing the game with 13 points and ten rebounds.
The Lady Rattlers finished the game shooting 32%. The “Lady Rattlers” were led in scoring by guard Tahnyjia Purifoy and guard Camille Jackson, with both women contributing 14 points despite low shooting percentages.
FAMU now falls to 5-13 on the season and 4-3 in conference play, while the Braves improve to 9-9 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. FAMU will take on the Alabama State University Hornets on Thursday Jan. 29 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
