The Florida A&M University Men’s Basketball team snap their four-game losing streak after their win against the Prairie View A&M University Panthers, 100-96. This is the first time the Rattlers have reached 100 points in a game since 2016 and their first time doing so in the SWAC.
The Rattlers started off red hot on offense shooting 64% in the first half including making nine three-point shots. FAMU led by as much as 28 points in the first half and entered halftime up 56-34 following a three from Micah Octave. However, the Panthers would make a run in the second half and bring the game within single digits. Strong defense in the closing minutes and helped the Rattlers secure the win at home.
The keys to victory for the Rattlers were their shot making and bench scoring. FAMU would finish the game shooting and 73% from three which is a season high for the Rattlers. Seven players also reached double digits in scoring. Jordan Chatman lead in scoring with 18 points while coming off the bench and was a perfect 4/4 from three.
“I just kept sticking with the work I put in and kept trusting myself and the reassurance I had from my coaches and teammates helped a lot as well,” Chatman said following the game.
FAMU outscored the Panthers 46-13 in bench points, allowing the Rattlers to dominate from the second unit. Jaquan Sanders contributed 11 points while Anquan Boldin Jr. had ten off the bench.
Head coach Charlie Ward was impressed with how his team bounced back following a four-game losing streak.
“A lot of things we can correct, but when you lost multiple games and you’re going to take the win regardless of how it looks,” Ward said.
FAMU improves to 9-13 on the season and 6-5 in conference play, while the Panthers fall to 9-15 on the season and 4-7 in conference play. The Rattlers will travel to play the Jackson State University Tigers on Saturday Feb.14 at 3:30 p.m. EST.
