TALLAHASSEE—Floridians from far and wide gathered at The Moon for “Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go From Here with Bernie Sanders in Tallahassee” with special guest Angie Nixon, Florida’s Democratic candidate for the United States Senate.

Sander’s stop in Tallahassee follows a forum at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he and Nixon encouraged students to get involved civically. Angie Nixon’s campaign for U.S. Senate has been especially impactful, as she won the Florida primaries against Republican candidate Alex Vindman with 67.44% of the vote and over $8.1 million in donations.

“I work in Washington, D.C. Nobody, nobody in Washington thought she could win that election. She won big time,” Sanders said. “This campaign is not only taking on Donald Trump and Senator Moody and the billionaire class. It’s about having a vision for a new America, for a government that works for all, not the few.”

The 2026 midterm election poses a pivotal ballot, as 33 senate seats are up for regular election and 2 seats are up for special election, including Florida. As Angie Nixon faces incumbent Republican candidate Ashley Moody, with a little over two weeks to election day, Nixon and her team are dedicated to spreading the message of Nixon’s campaign to as many Floridians as possible.

“I’m not running just to replace one politician with the next. I am running to change how government works for you,” Nixon said. “When I get to the United States Senate, working people will have a senator focused on putting more money in your pocket than lining their own.”

The rally was held by Senator Bernie Sanders and his team, featuring speakers in support of Angie Nixon, including Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost, former Mr. FAMU and grassroots organizer Devin Nobles Jr., and Amina Kamau, North Florida Director of the Angie Nixon campaign.

“We must seize this opportunity to send Angie Nixon to Washington, D.C., and change the way we do politics all across this nation,” said Nobles. “We have just two weeks to change the trajectory for the rest of our lives… and we have two weeks to send Angie Nixon to the United States Senate. Let’s go win.”

The rally drew a crowd of attendees young and old, as many did not even make it into the venue. Plenty of issues are driving voters young and old to the polls, including affordability, housing, employment opportunities, and immigration enforcement.

“I’ve always liked Bernie Sanders. You know, I like a lot of what he stands for and a lot what he has to say, and I feel like he supports young voters and progress in America in a reasonable sense,” said Miles Goldberger, a 21 year-old Florida State University Student. “Seeing Angie Nixon and what’s to come for the future of Florida, I was excited to see what they have to say.”

Nixon’s time in the state House of Representatives has boldly combatted threats against reproductive justice, sexual healthcare, and bodily autonomy. Nixon shares that a win in the U.S. Senate will provide a new platform to continue the fight.

“That fight looks like me working to codify Roe v. Wade. That fight looks like me working to ensure that we are increasing access to reproductive health care all across the board,” Nixon said.

Early voting began October 19th, and election day is November 3rd. Voters can find their closest polling location on the Voter Precinct Lookup  or Leon Votes for Leon County
