The well-awaited and highly anticipated biopic “Bob Marley One Love” hit the theaters on Valentine’s Day.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the movie gracefully recounts the life story of the reggae icon Bob Marley, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir, known for his recent role in “Barbie,” as well as his role as Malcolm X in the 2020 drama “One Night in Miami.”
“One Love” details Marley’s life in Jamaica and how he got his start in music with The Wailers to his unfortunate cancer diagnosis at the age of 32.
The movie highlights the adversities he overcame, including an attempted assassination, followed by the creation of his extremely successful “Exodus” album.
Throughout the film, Marley’s desire for peace and unity in a country that was incredibly divided as a result of political violence is beautifully intertwined.

At the heart of the film is the unconditional love story between Bob Marley and his wife Rita Marley, played by Lashana Lynch, A British actor known for her roles in “The Woman King” and several Marvel films, as they navigate his newfound fame and the triumphs that come with tour life.
An ongoing theme portrayed by the film was Marley’s love for Africa and his burning desire to visit and perform in Africa. His love for Africa is not lost in the film. Marley was a Pan-Africanist and a member of the Rastafari faith.
The use of captivating visuals, a moving story, and a universal theme that is still applicable even today allowed “One Love” to excel as a biopic.
The film incorporates Bob Marley’s hits throughout his career, such as “I Shot the Sheriff,” “No Woman No Cry,” and “Three Little Birds”.
“One Love has since performed extremely well passing 100 million globally at the box office within only the second weekend, while being produced for 70 million, putting it at number one at the box office.
