Florida A&M fell to 1-4 after a 40-21 loss to Alabama A&M, extending its losing streak to four games and prompting head coach Quinn Gray to call for a reset.

After starting the season 1-0 beating Coach Gray’s former team Albany State, everything has started to go downhill for the rattlers.

“We’re finding a way to snatch defeat from victory,” Gray stated at the post-game press conference. Head Coach Quinn Gray speaks to reporters after Florida A&M’s defeat.

As the team heads into a bye week before facing off against Alabama A&M, Gray said the team would reevaluate everything, including potential changes to the roster.

“There may be some people who won’t be here anymore,” Gray said. “There’s nothing off the board when it comes down to it.”

During the game, co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Nicholas Sewak was seen addressing players on the bench, emphasizing the need for improved effort and execution. Coach Nicholas Sewak talking to offensive linemen on the bench Photo/Video Credit: Jason Berry

“Got to move your feet. We got to be better,” Sewak told the offensive linemen. “Be better than them. Be the best.”

The lack of preparation and fight from the players is something Coach Gray addressed in his press conference and it was seen he wasn’t the only coach to have an issue with this as Sewak attempted to rally up his players.

“You got to believe. You got to f****** believe,” he said.

The Rattlers entered this game coming off a disappointing loss last week against the Tennessee State Tigers. Tommy Mitchell Sr., a 1961 FAMU graduate and 1989 FAMU Sports Hall of Fame inductee for Rattler basketball, shared his thoughts in a Facebook post before the Alabama State game.

“If we are as ready as we should be by now, let’s quiet the criticism. Let’s disappoint the predictions. Let’s become fundamentally sound and eliminate the mistakes and flags,” Mitchell wrote.

FAMU battled well against Alabama A&M, only being down 23-21 going into the fourth quarter after Tight End Lawerence Wright IV caught a touchdown pass.

Unfortunately for Mitchell and rattler fans, FAMU had 10 total penalties that cost them 93 yards as well as three turnovers in the fourth quarter resulting in Alabama State scoring 17 straight points.

As the Rattlers prepare for their next game, Gray’s comments signal that changes could be considered as the team works to turn around its season
